Top 3 tips for Dealing with Uncertainty

Here are my top three tips to find strength during times of adversity and uncertainty:
  • Stay in the centre of your own personal storm as that is where the stillness and peace is (just like the eye of a hurricane). Close your eyes, place your hand over the centre of your chest and take in 3 deep breaths, being sure to take your attention to the centre of your body as you do. Breathwork reduces the heart rate, oxygenates the blood and calms the sympathetic nervous system.
  • Ask yourself this question; "will this feeling of uncertainty be here in six months to a year's time from now?" Invariably, the answer is always 'No.' Doing this exercise helps to guide our attention back to the present so that we don't begin projecting our fears into the future. 
  • Identify 5 things that you are grateful for right now from the things in your life which are certain, and of which you draw strength. Establishing a gratitude practice has been scientifically proven by reputable researchers such as Robert A. Emmons, Ph.D., to elevate mood and reduce depression. There are some awesome online communities and groups that can assist you with developing a regular gratitude practice. One that I recommend, and also assist with administratively from time to time is Gratitude Growers.
